The Law in Fandom - Help Please
If you could mention this on your journals I would love you forever because I'm going to need some serious help here.
I'm planning a panel at Dragon*Con this year that's about what is or isn't illegal in fandom. I was wondering several things.
Thanks so much for your help!

I'm planning a panel at Dragon*Con this year that's about what is or isn't illegal in fandom. I was wondering several things.
- If there are any lawyers out there who have experience defending people who have been sued for fandom related acts or any understanding of interpreting the law for this purpose I would love it if you could contact me.
- Obviously, I'm going to have to do a fair amount of reading and researching for this one any links you might have about this subject would be immensely helpful.
- If you have seen the original creators commenting on the use of their source, it would be nice to compare and contrast them.
- We're talking about fan art, fanfic, and fanvids and I'd like to speak to people who have actually gotten the Cease & Desist letters.
- If you're coming to con, and would be interested in speaking on the panel, please also contact me, either by commenting here, or by emailing me at countessmary at gmail.
Thanks so much for your help!

I currently have a snoring kitty sleeping on my lap.
That's all I wanted to say.

Is my punctuation for this sentence correct. I get so confused on where to put punctuation with quotes in dialog.
Here's the sentence in question:
“Did you choose to become evil? Did you wake up one day and say, ‘I think I’ll destroy the world today.’?” he asked.
I really don't know about the quotes, period and question mark at the end.
I'm also open to suggestions on how to rewrite the sentence to make the punctuation easier.
Thanks to anyone that can help.
Edit: I got a few different response and still wasn't sure how to go with it. So, I just changed it around.
I now have this:
“Did you wake up one day and say, ‘I think I’ll destroy the world today.’ Did you choose to become evil?” he asked.
I think that works better, except that I still need a question mark for the first question. I hate punctuation.

Yay! Now we can get the hubby's car fixed. Tinker gets to go visit the vet for shots. We can buy gas for the cars too.
What started out bad - the apartment lawn care people woke me too early with the weed hacker outside my window - has turned out to be a great day.
I hope everyone has a great day too.

I got my assignment for
cya_ficathon. This round I added to what characters I am willing to write because I want to expand my writing. I got a request for a Willow story. I've been wanting to write more Willow.
Here's the problem. I'd like to bounce story ideas off people, but I'm afraid that the Willow authors on my flist might know or be the one who made the request of me.
So, if you write Willow and did not make a Willow request at
cya_ficathon, I'd love to discuss some story ideas. I have an idea. I just don't know how well it'll work.

First, I'm doing better. The asthma attacks have stopped. Though I still have sinus headaches and a lot of sneezing. Thanks for all the well wishes and advice from everyone. I'm sorry I haven't answered all the comments yet.
Second, I have a crazy idea for a meme type thing. I don't know if it'll catch on, but it can't hurt to put my idea out there. I will warn you that this is an idea I thought up in the middle of the night when I had trouble sleeping.
Here's the idea.
I love music and musicals. So, I want to know what your current favorite musical is and how you would recast it (fully or partially) with characters from your favorite fandom.
In my case, my favorite musical is currently Sweeney Todd, and my favorite fandom is BtVS. I can see Anya and Giles as Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney Todd. I can also see Ethan as Judge Turpin. Of Course, Andrew would be Pirelli.
So, what favorite characters of yours would you cast in your favorite musical?
Edit: If no musicals suite your fandom, feel free to make one up. Also, feel free to post this idea in your own LJs if you find it interesting.

Dear new author/LJ user:
I know you are excited about your first completed story, but there are some nice 'rules' to follow if you don't want everyone to hate you. Please follow them, and we will all get along nicely.

- Please use the default font setting. I know you have you favorite fonts, but the fonts and sizes you use do not work on everyone's journal.
- Please don't select background and font colors. I know it looks pretty in your journal, but in my journal and the community you posted to, it does not.
- If you choose to ignore rules 1 & 2, please stick with one font, one size, and one color scheme. Using four fonts, two background colors and three font colors is very jarring, especially when those fonts and colors clash with my journal.
- ALWAYS use a lj-cut when posting stories over 100 words. Not everyone wants to read your story while browsing their friends list.
Thank you.
I had a pretty vivid dream last night. I jumped into a pool, and it turned out to be much deeper than I expected. There was a ladder in the pool near where I jumped in. I reached for it to climb up out of the water, but it was out of reach. I was suspended between the top and bottom of the pool, and I couldn't actually see the surface or the bottom. All I could see was the ladder which I could never reach. Of course, this produced a feeling of suffocation. It was not a pleasant dream at all.
When I woke up, I realized the reason for the dream. I was having a major asthma attack. I haven't had an asthma attack in several years. So, I don't have a good inhaler anymore. I'll need to go see the doctor about it next week if I don't get better before then. I suffered through an eight hour shift at work, taking frequent rest breaks to catch my breath. Advil helps a little because if cuts down some of the inflammation. As I left work, I remembered one thing my doctor had told me years ago when I first had asthma problems. Caffeine helps. So, I went to the closest coffee shop and got a drink with extra espresso. Wow. It helped a lot. It was amazing. So, I decided to stop and get some caffeine tablets. I don't know if they'll help as well as the coffee, but I'm willing to try. At least they'll fit in my pocket while I'm at work tomorrow.
So, how is everyone else today?

I have gotten absolutely nothing accomplished this week. I have had the head cold from hell. I've gone through a mountain of tissues and a couple bottles of cough medicine. I think I'm finally getting a little better.
I just wanted to post so that everyone knows that I'm still alive.
*hugs flist*
While I'm posting I might as well ask a question that's been on my mind recently.
Has anyone written any Supernatural/Tru Calling crossovers? I just think that a crossover like that could be very interesting.

Work and taxes have been kicking my butt lately, so I haven't been online much. I plan on updating my award sites as soon as my taxes are all done. I did complete my federal and state taxes weeks ago, but I've been having trouble with the city and school district taxes. Their websites and e-filing systems are poorly organized.
Anyway, I apologize for the lack of updates at BRA and SOTHA.

We leave Tinker in the bedroom when we go out for more than a few hours. We do this mostly because we don't know when apartment maintenance people might need to come in. It's happened before when our neighbors apartment had problems, and they could only reach the problem through an access area in our apartment.
Anyway, I left Tinker in the bedroom before I went to work today. I made sure he had food and fresh water. I forgot to move his litter box from the kitchen to the bedroom. He was locked in the bedroom for nine hours without the litter box. But he did not pee or poop anywhere in the bedroom. He held it all day. I feel so sorry for him, but he was a good kitty. He ran straight for the litter box when I opened the bedroom door tonight.

I had planned on getting up at a decent hour, but it just didn't happen. I guess I really needed the sleep after getting up at 3:30 and 4:30 early in the week. Plus I had the cramps from hell, so sleep was a good thing. I did have some pleasant but strange dreams though. I dreamed that I was sick and Giles and Ethan took care of me.
In other news, there's a new episode of Numb3rs tonight! Did anyone else catch the commercial for the new episodes. They spoofed the Mac/PC ads. It was great. I can't wait to watch the new episode tonight. It occurs to me that I need to find Numb3rs icons. Can anyone point me to some good icon posts with Numb3rs icons?
My icon for this post really has nothing to do with anything in the post. I just wanted to show off one of my newly acquired icons.

I have to go to bed super early tonight because I have to be up at 3:30 am tomorrow morning. I have a big project at work. To get it done I have to go in before the store opens. This means I have to be there at 5 am three days in a row. It's a pain in the ass but it gives me 4 hours each day without customers in the store.
Also, the writing of this post was interrupted by Tinker picking a fight with a cat outside. He tried to fight through the window. I was highly amused and had to stop and watch for a while.

It's all well and good that you want to have a contest. It's good that you are giving away great prizes.
However, do not call it a theme contest when it's really a banner contest. Themes involve graphics, coordinating colors, fonts, etc. A banner is just one graphic.
See. I went and read the announcement and saw the list of prizes and got excited about it. I started thinking of all the neat things I could design. So I clicked on the link to see the current entries. I see banners which I assume are previews. I click all around, and finally after fifteen minutes I discover that the contest is only a banner contest.
Really?
That's not all that special. Banners are easy. Whole layouts are much more challenging, and they offer so much more room for showcasing style.

I just wanted to say thank you to
oreadno1. She knows why she deserves it.
I still don't have a lot of energy, but I've actually eaten solid food. My temperature has stayed below 100 for a few hours too. Thanks for all the comments wishing me well. They were much appreciated even though I didn't reply to them all yet.
On another note, I just got notice that my paid time is about to expire for my Insane Journal. I really wish I had bought a permanent account there, but I never had the money when I thought about doing it. Now I don't have the money to renew my paid time before it runs out. At least their ads aren't as annoying as LJ.

I woke up this morning an hour before my alarm was set to go off. My stomach felt a little weird but not really bad. During the next hour and a half I started coughing and my stomach began to feel worse. It still wasn't bad yet, but I called in sick to work. I'm so glad I did. About the time I would have gotten to work, it had turned in to a major case of flu. I lost track of how many times I threw up.
The bad news is that my husband is out of town this weekend. I've never been alone while this sick before.
The good news is that Tinker seems to understand what's wrong. He's been a very good cat today. He's spent most of the day sleeping by my side, and he tried to comfort me when I threw up.
I'm up now because I'm trying to drink something so I don't get dehydrated. I've got some mint tea right now. That seems to be doing me some good. But I'll be going back to bed soon. So far I've slept 21 hours out of the last 24 hours. It hasn't been a restful sleep though because of the fever and aches and headache. I hurt everywhere. I thing my fever is finally coming down after taking Tylenol for it twice. It was up over 101 for a while.
I hope everyone else is doing well tonight.
