I have even better news!

I just discovered that I do not need to buy a new antenna. The one I bought a long time ago to hook up to the converter box and my old tv is a digital antenna. I don't know why I didn't know this.

I just discovered that I don't need as much money as I thought to fix my tv trouble. Since I now have a flat screen HD tv, I can buy a HD antenna and don't need a converter box. The antenna is much less expensive. I am researching them now.

No broadcast tv for a while

My converter box is slowly dying. It worked for a while yesterday when I wanted to watch the local news, but yesterday morning and today, it didn't work. I need to save up to buy a new one. At least I still have my Roku box working.

The local station does have streaming news on their website, but it doesn't play well on my laptop, and it's too small to watch on my phone. Well, at least I can catch up on the news via Facebook and their website, I just won't see the video.

new tv shows

How many episodes do you give a show before you give up on it?

I'm watching new shows. One completely hooked me in just a few minutes. The other show still hasn't grabbed my attention after three episodes. I hate to not give it a chance, but shouldn't three episodes be enough?

need a name for a language in my NaNo story

  • Oct. 20th, 2014 at 9:10 PM
Willow - new
I have so much inspiration for my NaNo story, but I can't find a name for a language. There's going to be a language based on pictures and netspeak/acronyms in a world where half the people don't read, write, or speak much. For these people, communication is achieved through the computer language that uses pictures and acronyms.

So, I need to find a name for the language, preferably one that is slightly derogatory that non computer people would invent.

Any ideas?

My sister's surgery went well. Her lymph nodes seem okay, but they took samples to make sure.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.

Selective amnesia?

I think I must have selective amnesia when it comes to my kidney stones. I don't remember it hurting this much the other times I passed stones. I hope the area of the pain and the severity of the pain means I'm close to passing it. I finally broke down and took the Vicodin. Until a half hour ago, the pain wasn't enough to need it. Then suddenly, I was in so much pain that I thought I would throw up. Wish me luck in passing the stone tonight.

Thinking of NaNoWriMo

Willow - new
I am doing NaNoWriMo this year. I really need to get back to writing every day, and I have a novel idea that's been rattling around in my head for several months. I am not going to put pressure on myself for any specific word count. If I actually write 50,000 words, I'll be very happy, but my goal is to write something every day for a month. I hope that if I can accomplish that, then I will be motivated to continue writing after November.

I think I'm close to passing the kidney stone. Last night the pain was all in my back and left side. Today the pain has moved. Now the pain is down low in the front. I am hoping that I will pass it this week.

Tinker had his follow up vet appointment today. His foot is much better, and there will not be any need to remove the claw.

Tinker (aka Houdini)

Tinker has gone over 24 hours without his cone, and his bandage has stayed on. He doesn't even seem interested in trying to remove it. Maybe that's a good sign. He's not trying to clean or bite his foot.

Tinker's new nickname is Houdini. He managed to get out of his cone again. At least be didn't chew his bandage off. I really doubt I can get the cone back on him this time. I have no clue how long he had it off. I left at 7:30 this morning and got home just before 5:00. He greeted me at the door looking smug about having the cone off. I will try to get it back on, but I doubt I'll be able to do it.

My sisters is having surgery on the 16th to remove the tumors in her breasts. Please keep her and my family in your thoughts and prayers.

My kidney stone problem doesn't seem so worrisome when I think about what she's going through.

I just realized what Tinker reminds me of in his cone. He reminds me of the cartoon where Daffy Duck gets turned into a flower.

Good News - Not Really

  • Oct. 7th, 2014 at 5:00 PM

I had my six month checkup with the urologist today. I have no new kidney stones and the small ones are gone. I guess I passed them and didn't even know it. The doctor has switched me to yearly appointments. This is better than I could have hoped for at this appointment.

Oops.  I just got a phone call from my urologist. There was a mix-up with the x-rays. I am apparently passing a kidney stone. He asked me if I was having any pain. I told him I was having a little discomfort that I had thought was from my period that was just ending. So, I need to go back to his office tomorrow to pick up two prescriptions to help me pass the stone. The only problem is that I won't have money to fill the prescriptions until Friday. I guess I will pick up the prescriptions tomorrow and then have them filled after work on Friday. That's going to really suck.

I just got it back on him. He feels betrayed because he came to me for his morning snuggles, and I put the cone on him. He went over 12 hours without it, but now it's back on. I gave him his morning pain medicine too. He is not happy.

Tinker tried to get into his carrier to take a nap. His cone got caught, and he pulled it off. Now he's hiding under the sofa, and I can't get him out to put it back on.

I did manage to get him to take his antibiotic thanks to Greenies Pill Pockets. He still needs his pain medicine, but he'll get that later. He did eat a little, and he ate it right out of my hand and a little off the floor.

Back from the vet with Tinker

  • Oct. 5th, 2014 at 1:11 PM
Tinker Glare
Tinker has had a bad day. First, it took a long time to wrangle him into his carrier. He hissed and growled and had the giant fluffy tail. He loudly protested all the way to the vet. We only had to wait a half hour to be seen by the vet. While waiting, Tinker hid on the counter as far away from me as he could get. He almost climbed into the sink.

The vet was very good with him, but I had to keep a hold of Tinker while the vet examined his foot. His claw is ripped down to the quick. Right now, he has it bandaged and is on pain medicine and antibiotics. He is also wearing the cone of shame to keep him from biting his foot. When the vet took him in the back room to clean and wrap his foot, I heard him protesting loudly.

He is home now, and he is unhappy. He keeps trying to shake off the bandage, but I think he has given up on getting the cone off, at least for a while. He hasn't tried to eat yet. I don't know how that is going to go. I raised his dishes up a little to make it easier for him to eat and drink.

Here are some photos. click on them to see them full size.

I'm on budget billing for my electric, and my bill has been adjusted. I'm now paying $16 less per month. I think it's because of my broken dryer. I've been hanging my clothes to dry them. I never realized how much electricity the dryer used.
