note for new LJ users

Giles - quote - oh dear
Dear new author/LJ user:

I know you are excited about your first completed story, but there are some nice 'rules' to follow if you don't want everyone to hate you. Please follow them, and we will all get along nicely.

  1. Please use the default font setting. I know you have you favorite fonts, but the fonts and sizes you use do not work on everyone's journal.
  2. Please don't select background and font colors. I know it looks pretty in your journal, but in my journal and the community you posted to, it does not.
  3. If you choose to ignore rules 1 & 2, please stick with one font, one size, and one color scheme. Using four fonts, two background colors and three font colors is very jarring, especially when those fonts and colors clash with my journal.
  4. ALWAYS use a lj-cut when posting stories over 100 words. Not everyone wants to read your story while browsing their friends list.

Thank you.

I don't even try to read fics anymore if they change the font color and size. It's really bad in HP, there are several authors who seem to prefer very tiny bright pink fonts...

I wasn't intending to read it, but it took up the space of 5 posts on my flist. Very annoying.

I could not agree more. There is one of those on my f-list right now. It may even be the one to which you are referring.

It was in [info]rarebtvs, but the post has been removed now. I don't know if the author removed it or the mods.

That's the one I saw, too. And it was NC-17, to boot, which REALLY means it should have been under a cut.

The one I saw had a note about hoping the cut worked and was listed as NC-21. I've never seen NC-21 before.

I did not see that note about the cut. NC-21??? HUH???

Some people need to familiarize themselves with fandom BEFORE they post.

I agree. A good beta reader would have informed her to not post like that. I assume she didn't have a beta though.

This quote from the headers explains a lot.

"Author’s Notes; Basically pwp. Written 4/25/08 in about 45 minutes.
Feedback: Gimme Gimme -Gimme Gimme- Gimme Gimme- Gimme"

Okay, the gimme gimme thing is just ridiculous.

Ah, there's a plague of them, then. The one I saw was in [info]spike_fics.

Different comm, but it's the same story. It looked worse in the other comm.

I tracked it down out of sheer, morbid curiosity and I was right; pretty much only just made NC17; I'd have called it an R. Mostly when people go in for their own versions of NC17, the fic is tame, rather than torrid. And no cut? Changing fonts? BIG fonts? The use of the word 'sphincter' in a smut scene? :;shudders::

I can't find it at all now. Is it in the author's LJ? Or somewhere else?

Maybe it's a different one? I found it in spikes_fics.

I said to myself "I wonder what brought that on." And then a little bit further down the scroll, I knew!

That sounds extremely painful. Some people have no respect for other people's eyes. Conflicting colors/sizes/fonts are a surefire way for me to not read a story.

Oh I hate, hate, hate a background graphic on a page that obscures the text. Especially with a story where I really want to read it.

I am well past 18 years of age. If you plan to read any of my posted stories, you should be too. If you are not at least 18, please don't read them. Not all of my stories are for adults only, but a good majority of them are. So, consider this a warning.
